Conditions of use
Images may be downloaded on the understanding that: they will be used in the promotion of Newcastle University only, in materials produced by or for the University (see 'Suitable Use' below); they will be reproduced accurately; they will not be used in a misleading context; they will not be altered or manipulated in such a way as to cause detriment to the University; the source and copyright status of the content will be acknowledged; they will not be used by third parties for commercial gain.
Suitable use
Images are only to be used for the promotion of Newcastle University and may not be sold, rented or hired to any third parties, such as publishers. Suitable uses include web pages in the ncl.ac.uk domain and University publications, presentations, advertisements and display materials. Images may also be used for one-off editorial use in unbiased print and online media including newspapers, magazines and news websites that have no commercial interest in the image subject matter. For any other use, please contact the administrator.
Copyright
All images are subject to copyright law. Where provided in the metadata associated with an image, mandatory credits for photographers and their agencies must be included. You are responsible for ensuring usage complies with these restrictions, even when material is delivered or distributed to a third party. You are advised that we will enforce our intellectual property rights to the fullest extent permitted by the law, including the seeking of criminal prosecution.
Logo use
Logos must be used in the formats described in the Newcastle University Corporate Visual Identity Guidelines. These are available in the ‘Logos’ section of this site.
No right to create archive or gallery
You may not download or use any content in or to create or establish any online archive or gallery of photographs whether for viewing and/or downloading by any third party or for any other purpose.
Submission warranty and indemnity
By submitting images to the library you are granting Newcastle University permission to use them as established in 1. Downloading and using images (above), and confirming that you have secured permission to do so. You are prohibited from posting or transmitting to or from this Photographic Library, any material for which you have not obtained all necessary licences or approvals.
By submitting your contribution to the website, you warrant that your contribution:
is your own original work and that you have the right to make it available to us for all the purposes specified above, or that you have all relevant permissions in place from the Originator to make it available online via this photo library; is not defamatory and does not infringe any law; is not technically harmful (eg containing viruses). You also agree to indemnify us against all legal fees, damages and other expenses that may be incurred by us as a result of your breach of the above warranty.
Newcastle University’s usage rights
Submission of images to this website grants Newcastle University perpetual, royalty-free, non-exclusive right and license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, perform, play, make available to the public, and/or to incorporate your contribution in other works in any media now known or later developed for the full term of any rights that may exist in your contribution. If you do not wish to grant us the rights set out above, please do not submit your contribution to the website.
No unlawful use
As a condition of your use of this photographic library you warrant to us that you will not use it for any purpose that is unlawful, defamatory, could encourage conduct that would be considered a criminal offence, or is prohibited by these Terms and Conditions. Unauthorised use of this photographic library may give rise to a claim for damages or be a criminal offence. By using this site, you agree to comply with all applicable laws and regulations as may be in force from time to time.

Newcastle University reserves the right, at our sole discretion, to suspend or permanently block your access to this website or any portion of it without prior notice.
Accuracy of content
Newcastle University reserves the right to withdraw content without prior notice. While Newcastle University endeavours to ensure that the content of the Photo Library is correct, it does not warrant its accuracy and completeness. It is the responsibility of the contributor to ensure that the subject matter of assets is relevant, up to date and suitable for their intended use. Assets will be automatically archived three years from their upload date.
User protection
It is your responsibility as a user to ensure that you have made all the arrangements necessary for you to have access to our photographic library, including protection from malicious software.
Other users
You are responsible for ensuring that this photographic library is only accessed through your internet connection by authorised users of the site. Login details must not be shared and you are responsible for any material downloaded to your account.
Liability
